| Having
your portrait made should be fun so I promise to make it as enjoyable
as possible. Many sitters prefer their home or office for our first
meeting, but a session at my studio works well for those who live
nearby. We will begin with a discussion of
basic matters, including where your
portrait will hang as well as mood, setting, and concerns or wishes
you might have.
Also, before we
meet you should give thoughtful consideration to your wardrobe for
the portrait, so
that we can discuss clothing options. The initial
portion of the fee will be payable at that time.
Most
commonly I will need a photo shoot during the initial meeting. I'll
make a number of photos over the course
of perhaps an hour to ninety minutes. From those shots I'll
pick a few for discussion and
then use those as references to complete at least one preliminary study in
charcoal, or I may make an oil sketch in some instances.
When ready, we'll review the
studies and address last minute concerns or questions. After you've approved
the studies, painting will commence. If you
desire, the preliminary sketches mentioned above can be transmitted to you via the Internet
although I do
encourage you to see them with me, in person. Remember that on acceptance another
third of the total fee is due.
As the portrait nears completion, we
will make plans for delivery. In general, I plan to deliver the
portrait to you in person. Because your satisfaction is guaranteed I
don't accept final payment until your portrait is completely satisfactory.
The entire portrait process will likely take as
long as six months, by the way, partly because of the nature of oil
paint..
Portraits are painted approximately life size, but smaller
paintings are available upon request. Prices do not include framing,
travel expenses or applicable taxes. |
